Not sure there's much to say, only that my grandparents -- who survived 1930s and 40s Germany -- taught my mom (and thus by extension me) that you control your own thoughts and actions -- no one else -- and that gives you control over your little portion of the universe.
thanks for letting me know...after the election, for some reason, the desperation of the moment reminded me of the famous 1964 "Daisy" ad (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riDypP1KfOU), where President Johnson says "We must either love one another or we must die" - so I went to look that up and ended up at this poem, where it seems that Johnson stole the "we must love each other or die" bit from. I had never heard of it before, and though it's long and in some parts a little wonky (about the history stuff) it really has so many great nuggets. I'm feeling the "children lost in a haunted wood" bit this morning.
